One day a caterpillar wanted to fly. He crawled inch by inch. He tried to fly but could not. He tried the next day and he could not. The caterpillar was getting angry, but then he got so angry that he got sleepy. He had not given up. He made a cocoon and found a nice, warm place to sleep.
When the caterpillar woke up he felt like he had gotten bigger. He had not gotten bigger, but he had turned into something new. He never knew what he was until he saw another thing flying. It looked just like him.
He yelled, “Hey, how are you doing that?”
The other caterpillar looked at him and said, “You’re a butterfly.”
He said, “A butterfly?”
The other butterfly said, “Yes, a butterfly.”
He was quite surprised to know this. He thought about it and said, “Can I fly too?” But it was too late. The butterfly had already flew off. It jumped to the ground because it did not know it could fly. He spent hours trying to jump up and fly.
Then another butterfly came and said, “Why are you down there?”
The butterfly replied, “I cannot fly. I tried for days.”
The other butterfly said, “Yes you can. Flap your wings and jump and you will fly like a bird!”
He jumped and flew up and landed on a tree branch. “I knew you could do it!” Said the other butterfly. They flew all day. The End
